Vijai maintaining stoic silence on speculations

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | MARCH 18, 2022, 11:53 PM IST

Is anything cooking on the Dovondem bandh, the residence of Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai, post-results? Well, this question has been doing the rounds in political circles in the wake of speculations over Sardesai’s political future. The regional outfit, which fought the elections in alliance with the Congress has won just one seat. Sardesai is unhappy with the voting pattern in his fiefdom. So far, the Goa Forward chief has maintained stoic silence on all speculations, though he has had interactions with his core team including elected representatives. Wait and watch.

Babush poaching politicos from Saxtti?

Political observers have been trying to find out whether the Sultan of Taleigao has zeroed in on politicos from Saxttidom to support the BJP-led government. Having opposed any truck with the Dhavalikars, observers are trying to find out whether Babush has a Plan B in mind to compensate Sudinbab’s omission from the cabinet. Given that the Sultan enjoys close rapport with Pramodbab Sawant, observers are trying to figure out whether the duo has zeroed in on any politician from Saxttidom to support the government. Wait and watch.

Girish quitting now calls for introspection

GPCC chief Girishbab Chodankar has quit office following Madam Sonia Gandhi’s diktat over the party debacle in Goa. His opponents within the Congress and outside have a question or two for the Sonia-Rahul duo – why did the party national leadership ignore pleas of senior party leaders to effect a change in Goa party leadership and save the party from the debacle. A senior leader said Rahul Gandhi was playing to Girish’s tunes despite the party losing elections after elections and when leaders were deserting the party. Indeed time for introspection.

Rajini’s role as Goa observer questioned

Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s decision to draft party leader Rajini Patil as an observer to find out the party debacle in Goa seemed to have not gone down well with a section of the State leadership. For, sources say Rajini Patil was part of the process for the selection of candidates as she was heading the party screening committee. Sources said the leadership should find out whether Rajini Patil had raised any reservations at the time of candidates’ selection with a senior leader saying it should not appear that she herself is going to see what she did wrong. Any takers?

Is Churchill planning to call it a day in politics?

It’s not known whether Varca strongman Bab Churchill will take political retirement after his defeat at the hands of Aam Aadmi Party bitter rival, MLA Venzybab Viegas? One thing, however, is clear that the outgoing MLA has shut his Benaulim office and has scaled down the operations at his Varca office. Churchill had declared in the run up to the polls that 2022 would be his last election. It’s isn’t clear whether the outgoing MLA has decided to call it a day in electoral politics or has simply shut down his office in the wake of his defeat. Wait and watch.
