Semana da Cultura Indo-Portuguesa

To celebrate a successful Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa(An Indo-Portuguese Cultural Week) in Lisbon, Portugal, where a largedelegation of Goans, across all walks of life, celebrated an inherent Goan-nessand a global outlook, The Goan has brought out a special 12 page supplementwith this issue, for Goa. The special supplement features renowned writers andexperts in their fields, who discuss the seamless merging of Goan-Portugueseculture in modern Goa.   The going awayof the Portuguese was a moment in history. But Portuguese culture has imbibedand preserved as Goa’s own culture. Goa lives that culture every moment of thewaking lives of its people.

Jason Keith Fernandes’ essay discusses how Portuguese-nessdoes not mean the death of a separate identity for Goans and how there is aneed for a global Semana da Cultura across Lusofone countries. ConstantinoXavier discusses trade links and how Goa and Portugal can cement ties and shareknowledge, while Damodar Mauzo  looks atGoa and Portugal through culture and literature. Fadista Sonia Shirsat andVasco Alvares write about music and food respectively, while Benedito Ferraolooks at the artistic links between the two countries. There’s also theinteresting tale of historian Percival Noronha.

This supplement is an offering to those who believe thatGoa’s uniqueness is a strength that we can showcase to the world.
