Assonora United Football Club prevailed over St Anthony’s Sports Club, Marna-Siolim 4-3 via tie breaker to move into the semifinals of the 22nd Vagator Soccer 2022 organised by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club, at Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club Ground, Ozran, on Tuesday.
In the 24th minute, Assonora United with the first chance of the match where Gaurish Bugde shot from a pass by Kunal Salgaonkar was saved by the Siolim keeper. St Anthony’s SC missed to score in the 34th minute from a cross from the left flank from Mayruesh Naik where Dalesh Pednekar couldn’t give the finishing touches to the shot. The first half ended in a goalless draw.
On crossing ends, in the 37th minute Saideep Pomburpekar’s shot from outside the penalty area was saved by Assonora United keeper Sanij Bugde to the rescue. St Anthony’s SC looked threatening when a counter attack in the 55th minute by Dalesh Pednekar let a through ball to Sonu Mandrekar but he couldn’t find the target. End of regulation time scores were 0-0.
In the tie breaker, Kunal, Akash, Punaji and Gaurish netted for Assonora while Rajesh, Prajot and Sanij failed to convert their kicks. And for St Anthony’s SC Mayruesh, Videsh, Kashiram scored while Joel, Vipul, Claudio and Sahil failed to score.
The man of the match was awarded to Punaji Kalangutkar of Assonora United Football Club by Brian Correia.
