Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda were crowned champions of the Late Fr Gervasio Pinto Memorial Football Tournament, organised by Guardian Angel SC, Curchorem, after defeating United Boys of Ambaulim 4-2 in a tie-breaker in the final played at Figueredo Ground, Pontemol-Curchorem on Sunday.
The final, held on the feast day of the tournament organisers’ patron Guardian Angel, drew a large crowd.
Don Bosco struck first through Jef Barreto in the 31st minute, but their lead was short-lived as Visiton Fernandes equalised for Ambaulim in the 33rd minute. With the teams locked 1“1 at full-time, the match was decided from the spot.
In the shootout, Rahul Sharma, Velito Miranda, Cavon Araujo and Alfred Noronha scored for Don Bosco. For Ambaulim, Dalcon Carvalho, Visiton Fernandes and Alex Fernandes converted their kicks.
MLA Nilesh Cabral, CEO of Guardian Angel, was the chief guest and presented the prizes in the presence of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council Chairperson Damodar N Bhende, Dr Jasmine Braganza, Fr Thomas Gonsalves (Manager, Guardian Angel), Fr Ashliff Correia (Asst Parish Priest), and other dignitaries.
