The Goa Welfare Integrated and Development Trust organised a Five-a-Side Hockey Tournament at Don Bosco Engineering College, Fatorda, featuring eight teams from four schools, recently. Damodar English High School, Guddi Paroda emerged champions, defeating St Jude High School, Betalbatim, who finished as runners-up, while Loyola High School took third place. Senior sports journalist Charles D’Souza, the chief guest, presented the winners’ trophy to the Guddi Paroda team, while Goans Hockey general secretary and former MLA Farrel Furtado e Gracias awarded the runners-up trophy and cash prize to the Betalbatim side. The tournament was held in collaboration with the Goans Hockey and the Goa Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan.

St Mary of the Angels handball champs
MARGAO: St Mary of the Angels Convent High School celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in style, clinching the All-Goa Interschool U-17 Girls Handball Tournament with a commanding 6-2 victory over Rosary High School, Navelim in the final. The tournament, organised by the school in association with its Parent-Teacher Association, featured 14 schools from across Goa. St Mary’s dominated the title clash with goals from Natalee Vaz (2), Valanka Fernandes, Annessa Rebelo, Morenza Barreto and Tanushka Simoes, while Christine Ferrao scored both goals for Rosary High School. In the third-place play-off, Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim beat Assumpta Convent High School 2-0. Prize money was awarded ” Rs 10,000 for the winners, Rs 7,000 for runners-up and Rs 5,000 for third place ” along with medals and certificates. Special awards went to Rechel Pires (Best Goalkeeper, Rosary HS) and Clea Colaso (Promising Player, Perpetual Succour).

Raia Sporting enter quarter-finals
MARGAO: Raia Sporting Club defeated Betalbatim Sporting Club 2-1 in the inaugural match of the 3rd Late Uday Shirodkar Memorial Inter-Village Football Tournament, organised by Shiroda Youth Club at the Subhash Chandra Bose Sports Complex, Karai“Shiroda, on Sunday. Myron Pereira put Raia ahead in the 12th minute with a neat finish, giving his side a 1-0 lead at half-time.
Betalbatim responded strongly after the break and levelled the score in the 52nd minute through Savan Lotlikar. However, Raia regained control late in the match, with Sheehan Fernandes scoring in the 60th minute to secure their place in the quarter-finals. Myron Pereira was adjudged Man of the Match and received the award from Narayan Kamat, ZP member.

Panchwadi United edge DBO Fatorda
MARGAO: An 80th-minute strike by Rio Fernandes helped Panchwadi United Sports Club beat Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 1-0 in the GFA Under-18 Second Division League at the Don Bosco Oratory Ground, Fatorda on Sunday. Both teams displayed attacking intent, but the breakthrough came late, with Panchwadi enjoying better control and possession in the second half to seal the hard-fought win.
