MARGAO
The yearly Charity Match organised by Goa Football Association (GFA) between last season's champions Dempo Sports Club and last season's runners-up Salgaocar FC will be played on Sunday, September 11 at 3.45 pm at Duler Stadium, Mapusa.
The entry for the match will be with tickets for VVIP, Western and North stands (three categories), with no cards or passes being allowed. Meanwhile, Antonio Pango has assumed charge as the president of GFA after Churchill Alemao was forced to resign from the top post following an order of the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
Pango has appealed to football fans to turn up in large numbers since the match is this 2022-23 season's opener and a prelude to the Goa Professional League wherein Goa's top teams will participate. A meeting of the committee chaired by Pango was held on Friday with Babli Mandrekar, Dominic Pereira, Minguel Gonsalves and Cosme Oliveira given major organisational duties. The chief guests for the match will be Shubangi Vaigankar, chairperson of Mapusa Municipal Council and Shankar Benkar, vice-chairperson.
Meanwhile, Pango informed that the GFA elections are likely to be held by October end. Pango said that the decision for holding elections of GFA will be taken in the executive committee meeting of the football body scheduled on September 12. The meeting will also discuss other organisational matters and financial condition of GFA, he said.
