The Rainforest Challenge (RFC) India 2022, which is the 8th edition of the off-road motorsport competition, kick-started in Goa on Saturday.
Twenty-seven teams from all over India, each comprising a driver and a co-driver, will be competing for the champions title. The winner of the event will be announced on July 30 and the top Indian driver of the competition will get an automatic, free entry to the RFC Mother Event that will be held in Malaysia at the end of the year.
Launched in 2014 by Delhi-based Cougar Motorsport, RFC India is the India Chapter of the Rainforest Challenge of Malaysia, which is ranked third in the ‘Five Toughest Off-Road Races in the World’ by Skoda Motorsport (2018).
The vehicle scrutiny and driver’s briefing for RFC India 2022 took place on Saturday and only those vehicles that meet the strict RFC India guidelines will make it to the starting line when the actual competition starts on Sunday. There will be 26 Special Stages (SS) or challenges that each team will have to complete over the next few days. Each SS will be worth 100 points and the team with the maximum points at the end of all the SS will be declared the RFC India 2022 champions.
Kabir Waraich (co-driver Dushyant Khosla) from Gerrari Offroaders, Chandigarh is the defending champion. The event will be held at various locations across Goa, including Suquerbag in Quepem on July 24 and 25, Maina in Quepem on July 26 and 26, Morlem in Sattari on July 28 and finally at Loutolim in Verna on July 29 and 30.
