The Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal has been granted yet another year to submit its 'further report' on water sharing between the three States of Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
This is the third extension the tribunal has got since it passed its initial award in August 2018.
It was slated to first submit this 'further report' by August 20, 2019 but it never did and has since been given one year extensions in August 2020 and 2021.
"In pursuance of powers conferred by the proviso to sub-section (3) of section 5 of the Act, the Central Government hereby extends the period of submission of further report by the said Tribunal for a further period of one year with effect from the 20th August, 2022," said the order issued by Debashree Mukherjee, Additional Secretary in the ministry of Water Resources.
The tribunal had requested the Central government to extend the period of its tenure by one more year to submit its report.
In its report given on August 14, 2018, the tribunal had permitted Karnataka to divert 3.9 TMC of water from the river basin.
