Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club Paroda beat Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 8-7 via the tiebreaker to move into the finals of the 49th Custodio Memorial Trophy football tournament organised by Raia Sporting Club at Village Panchayat ground, Raia on Saturday.
Midfielder Maxwell Furtado opened the scoring for Fatorda with a placement shot, off a Francis Andrade assist in the 7th minute. A move by Joseph Dias, the striker of Paroda, was foiled by defender Roque Borges in the tenth minute. Striker Clencio Pinto, after foxing defenders Benzu Clement and Crimson Fernandes, netted the second goal with a powerful shot in the 26th minute.
Referee David gave marching orders to Jaison Dias of Paroda in the 60th minute. With a win in sight for Fatorda, the game plan of paroda coach Francisco D'Costa worked as with nine men, they fought back as Cyril Dias pulled a goal back in the 64th minute. Three minutes later, Joel Furtado made it 2-2. In the tiebreaker, Fr Agnelo Youth proved to be the better shooters.
The Man of the match award was presented to Cyril Dias of FrAgnelo Youth SC at the hands of Patrick Pacheco, Executive Committee member of Raia Sporting Club.
Rossman Cruz ease into quarterfinals
Rossman Cruz Sports Club Nagoa Verna made short work of Saligao United 3-0 to move into the quarterfinals of the 22nd Vagator Soccer 2022 organised by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club, at Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club Ground, Ozran, on Saturday.
Rossman Cruz took the lead in the 6th minute when Desmon Gama scored on the rebound after a save made by the Saligao keeper. Apart from the goal it was the battle of the defences, with both teams solid at the back.
On crossing ends in the 52nd minute, Imamsab of Rossman Cruz missed an easy sitter as he placed the shot into the hands of Saligao keeper Agustin D'mello. Agustin had a busy outing as he saved most of the shots thrown at him but he couldn't stand his ground in the final minutes of the match as Savio Fernandes netted the second for Rossman Cruz in the 68th minute. In the 72nd minute, Wilson Fernandes scored the third.
The Man of the match trophy was awarded to Desmon Gama of Rossman Cruz by Anna D'souza.
