SSA Govt College of Arts & Commerce, Virnoda, Pernem and SV’s Sridora Caculo College of Commerce & Management Studies in collaboration with Goans Hockey and supported by ACDOPEG (Association of College Directors of Physical Education of Goa) organised the 1st Inter-College Hockey Fives Championship at Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa.
Keeping the principle of grassroots development in mind and to encourage more teams to participate, the championship was held in the hockey fives format and not the traditional 11 per side field hockey.
In the men’s championship, Sridora Caculo College, Mapusa defeated Govt College Pernem in the semifinals while St Xavier’s College Mapusa overcame Agnel Institute, Assagoa to proceed to the finals. In the finals, St. Xavier’s College Mapusa got the better of Sridora Caculo College after trailing by two goals as they won 5-3.
In the women’s championship semis, St Xavier’s defeated Govt. College Sanquelim and DM’s College Mapusa defeated Rosary College Navelim. St Xavier’s college went past DM’s College 6-5 to be crowned women's champions after winning the men's championship a day before.
