United Club of Verna cruised into the quarterfinals of the 25th All Goa Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side inter village football tournament with a resounding 4-0 victory over United Sports Club Seraulim, at the Chinchinim Church ground, on Tuesday.
The match was a one-sided affair from the outset, with Verna dominating possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities. They finally broke the deadlock in the 21st minute through Sairon Albuquerque, before Lenon Pereira doubled the lead just two minutes later. Clifton Rebello added a third before halftime to put the game beyond doubt.
Seraulim came out with renewed vigor in the second half but were unable to penetrate the Verna defense. In fact, it was Verna who extended their lead through Lenon Pereira's second goal of the match. Despite a valiant effort from Seraulim's Dickson and Savan, Verna's goalkeeper stood firm to preserve the clean sheet.
