Goa’s Sanjana Prabhugaonker to represent India at the Asian Aquatic Championship 2025

Goa’s ace swimmer Sanjana Manguesh Prabhugaonker will represent India at the 11th Asian Aquatic Championship 2025 to be held in Ahmedabad from September 28 to October 11.

A total of 43 swimmers, 21 men and 22 women will represent India during the championship and Sanjana is the only Goan in the squad.

Currently, all the shortlisted probables are undergoing training in a camp since last one month at the Aquatic Stadium, Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad.

The probables were shortlisted based on their performance at the senior nationals held in Bhubaneswar earlier this year.

The 18-year old girl from Bambolim had bagged a silver in women's 50m backstroke with a timing of 30.68 seconds during the senior nationals. She will represent India in 50m backstroke at the Asian Aquatic Championship.

Backstroke and Freestyle are Sanjana’s favourite events and she has won several national medals both in senior and junior category.

Among her notable achievements include the four medals (2 silver and 2 bronze) she won in 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke and 100m freestyle during the 2023 National Games held in Goa.

During the 48th Junior National Aquatic Championships 2022 held in Bhubaneshwar, Sanjana had won five medals (four silver and one bronze).

Currently she trains at the Basanvangudi Aquatic Centre in Bengaluru. Earlier, Sanjana had even trained in Dubai for a while.

This is the first time India will host the senior-level Asian Aquatics Championships which will include swimming, diving, water polo, and artistic swimming events.
