Sporting Club Davorlim lifted the Cana Benaulim Panchayat Cup after a dramatic and rain-drenched final against Guardian Angel SC at the packed St John the Baptist Panchayat ground in Benaulim.
Despite the persistent downpour, a spirited holiday crowd turned up in large numbers, creating a vibrant atmosphere for what proved to be a memorable clash.
Davorlim took the early advantage with a superb strike by Alent Colaco in the 22nd minute, capping off an impressive first-half performance characterised by precise passing and high pressing. However, Guardian Angel SC, known for their fighting spirit, came back strongly in the second half. Their pressure finally paid off when Cyril Dias calmly slotted home a penalty to bring the score to 1-1.
With no further goals in regulation time, the match was decided via a tense penalty shootout. Davorlim kept their composure and converted their spot-kicks with precision to seal the title with a 7-6 win.
The final was attended by several dignitaries, including Fr Nicholas from the Delhi Archdiocese, Fr Johnsie Colaco, and Sarpanch Xavier Pereira. Prizes were distributed by panchayat members alongside GFA senior vice president Anthony Pango and executive members Anthony Leo Fernandes and Michael.
David Fernandes, president of the St Sebastian Union Club, delivered the vote of thanks, closing the evening on a high note and marking a spirited beginning to Benaulim’s football season.
