The earlier two editions of the children’s festival havebeen a success with tremendous response coming from groups, institutions, andsports and cultural associations who are keen in producing children’s theatre.
There are certain norms to be observed for staging suchchildren’s tiatr at the festival though. Scripts that depict stories based onthe lives of children will be given preference, while others will not beconsidered. The duration of the tiatr should not be less than one and a halfhour and should not exceed more than and a half hours in terms of duration. Thefirst three placed winners of the last year’s children’s tiatr festival willget direct entry into this year’s festival. The performances will be held at3:30 pm except for the first two days, when the performances will be held inthe morning at 10.30 am.
The tiatrs presented at this festival should strictly followthe traditional tiatr format as approved by the TAG. The scripts that receivethe approval of the TAG will be given a cash incentive of Rs 20,000/- each, todefray the cost of production, and other incidental expenses incurred forstaging the tiatr.
This scheme of the TAG has received widespread support andappreciation from the producers as well as tiatr lovers, because it provides aplatform for the youngsters to display their talent and show an inclinationtowards Konkani theatre. Children’s theatre is not new to tiatr goers since inthe past commercial tiatrs have been staged by playwrights of the Konkani stagewith an exclusive children’s cast and they have received encouraging response.TAG by floating such a scheme is going a step forward to give it a moreorganised and professional touch with a view to further develop the theatre artwhich has a mass following and is the backbone of the Goan cultural set up.
