ABC Sports Club Arambol edged past hosts Vagator Parish Youth SC 3-2 to move into the quarterfinals of the 23rd Vagator Soccer 2023 at Vagator Parish Youth SC Ground.
In the 18th minute, a through ball by Jason Fernandes to Cyprian Rodrigues saw the latter score the opener for ABC Arambol. On crossing ends, Vagator PYSC scored the equalizer in the 37th minute after a corner taken by Alatn D'souza, with a fancy flick by Tannay Mapshekar deceiving the Arambol goalkeeper.
A through ball by Reniel D'mello found Cyprian Rodrigues who scored his brace. In the 49th minute, Arambol scored another goal as Reniel D'mello made it 3-1. Vagator pulled one back when Tannay Mapshekar dribbled his way from the halfway line to find the back of the nets.
The Man of the Match prize was awarded to Cyprian Rodrigues of ABC Arambol by Surendra Govekar.
Curtorim Gymkhana blank Peddem Bomm 3-0
Curtorim Gymkhana made short work of Peddem Bomm SC 3-0 to enter into the finals of the 50th Custodio Memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Raia Sporting Club at Raia Panchayat ground on Sunday.
In the first session, Peddem Bomm SC had an opportunity to take the lead but Sagun Shirodkar missed the target when he had only the goalkeeper to beat. Milagres Fernandes of Curtorim also missed two scoring chances in the first session.
Curtorim Gymkhana dominated the second session and scored three goals. First Afileo Fernandes opened the scoring with a header. He doubled the lead for Curtroim Gymkhana off a pass from Milagres Fernandes. James Fernandes made the issue safer for Curtorim Gymkhana scoring the third goal.
Afileo Fernandes was adjudged as man-of-the-match and was handed the award by Fr Ronny.
Navelim VU move into semifinals
Navelim Villagers Union beat SC Davorlim 2-1 to move into the semifinals of the 32nd Super Soccer tournament organised by United Boys of Dando Colva in memory of late Joao Francis Fernandes at Dando Ground Benaulim on Sunday.
Paxton Gomes gave Davorlim an early lead in the 19th minute. Navelim's Sandroy and Preston Costa controlled the game effectively but were unable to break the Davorlim Defence. However, after the break, Navelim stepped up their attacking game and Rovan Pereira managed to equalize in the 43rd minute.
The last 15 minutes saw both teams pressing for a win, but it was Clinton Niasso's crucial goal in the 57th minute that ultimately sealed the win for Navelim. Meliston Dias was deservedly honoured as the man-of-the-match by Sanford Braganza, the president of UB Dando Colva.
