The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) officials who are in Goa to oversee the preparedness of infrastructure for the AFC Under 16 Football Championship 2016, inspected the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Thursday. Javier Ceppi, FIFA Under 17 World Cup tournament director lead the inspection team.
The delegation which was also accompanied by the officials of SAG and Goa Football Association inspected the players dressing room, the referees' room ,VVIP gallery, media and broadcasting rooms. The delegation also had a close look at the playing surface which appeared to be in imaculate condition for the forthcoming 2nd Indian Super League matches.
Talking to The Goan, Chetan Kulkarni, Head of AFC Media stated that the AFC incorporates whatever directives are given by the FIFA.
"We'll express what is needed as per the FIFA guidelines, the facilities here are better but there are some modification which we had pointed out and it has to be implemented.The SAG has agreed and assured that the work on the modification will start in January next year and will be completed by July end," explained Kulkarni. It has been found that two new players' dressing room will be set up of international standards besides other modifications.
Kulkarni further disclosed that the preliminary matches of the Under 16 will be held at Bambolim ground while both the semifinals and finals are slated at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda. "At this juncture we are extremely happy with the co-operation of the SAG and GFA, the officials are very helpful and the coordination is very good," stated Kulkarni with satisfaction.
