Tony Cabral, former in-charge of All India Football Federation (AIFF) Training Centre, was laid to rest at Holy Spirit Church Cemetery, Margao on Saturday evening.
Cabral died on Thursday due to multiple organ failure. A gentleman who did his job with total commitment, he was a silent professional and administrator.
Amongst those who paid their last respects to the departed soul were Alberto Colaco, ex-secretary of AIFF, Anthony Pango, vice-president of Goa Football Association (GFA), Schubert Furtado, former vice-president of GFA, Jacinto Fernandes of Salcete Football Club, among friends and family members.
“Very sad that Tony Cabral has left for his heavenly abode. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace. I have known Tony well, worked with him. He was a lively and kind-hearted person. He served AIFF and football with great dedication and sincerity. He will be missed,” said Dr Shaji Prabhakaran, president of the Delhi Football Association.
“One of the most compassionate persons I ever met in my life. Rest in peace Tony sir,” said Alex Ambrose, assistant coach of India under-17 women's football team. Shabbir Ali, former coach of Salgaocar Sports Club and Ishfaq Ahmed, assistant coach of Kerala Blasters, also condoled the death of Cabral.
