Aizawl FC dished out an impressive performance and charged out to a fluent 2-0 win against Jamshedpur FC in the Group II Play-off match in the Elite Youth Under-18 League at Rosary Ground, Navelim on Thursday. Aizawl FC led 1-0 at the breather.
Striker R Lalthanamawia rocked Jamshedpur early, scoring the opening goal from a snap shot in the very 4th minute.
Stung by that setback, Jamshedpur regrouped and took the fight to the rival camp. However their forwards were guilty of muffing easy sitters. Aizawal too had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards also misfired like their rivals.
Crossing over, Jamshedpur grew into the match but did not do enough to find the equaliser. Lalthanmawia scored his brace in the 86th minute when he beat the rival goalkeeper Shiv Nandan Yadav with a clinical finish.
In the second match, Shillong Lajong outplayed Raman Vijayan Soccer 4-0. Don Borlang Lyndoh broke the deadlock when he beat Raman Vijayan goalkeeper Muhammad Safique Ahmed with a snap shot in the 20th minute. After switching ends, Freestar Kharbangar added his name on the scorers list in the 61st minute. In the 70th minute, defender Mohammed Shafique Ahmed converted a spot kick to make it 3-0 before Baiaikara Swer rounded up the tally in the 73rd minute, 4-0.
Aizawl FC and Shillong Lajong FC, along with the best third-placed team, will advance to the final round where they will join 11 more teams.
