Ali Amanat of RCC Vasco clinched the Mormugao Taluka Open chess tournament at DSYA Indoor Stadium, Chicalim on Sunday,
In the very first round, Amanat was upset by Keith Albuquerque but made a comeback by winning the remaining rounds. The 11-year-old beat Utkarsh Ganpule from a draw position in the last round to finish with 7 points from 8 rounds. Yash Paul settled for a draw against Asmita Ray to score 6.5 points and finish as runner-up due to his better tiebreak score ahead of Asmita Ray, who also finished with 6.5 points. Utkarsh Ganpule finished fourth, while Keith Albuquerque was fifth.
The tournament had 60 participants, including 15 FIDE rated players. The tournament was organized by Mormugao Taluka Chess Association under the aegis of Goa Chess Association.
