MARGAO: Ambelim SC booked their place in the semi-finals of the UCV Cup 2026 with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over hosts Union of Chinchinim Villagers at the Church Ground, Chinchinim, on Monday.
Ambelim made an aggressive start and were rewarded in the 18th minute when Lester Fernandes capitalised on a loose ball spilled by the Chinchinim goalkeeper to put his side ahead.
Leading 1-0 at the interval, Ambelim doubled their advantage early in the second half as Lester Fernandes struck again in the 32nd minute to complete his brace and make it 2-0.
Union of Chinchinim Villagers finally pulled one back in the 53rd minute through Franky Oliver, who headed home to revive their hopes. However, Ambelim's defence remained resolute and held firm under sustained pressure to preserve the 2-1 lead until the final whistle.
Benny Silva of Ambelim SC was named Player of the Match for his match-winning display between the posts. The award was presented by Valentine Barretto, former Sarpanch and current Panch member of the Village Panchayat of Chinchinim-Deussua.
