Ambelim Sports Club downed Raia Sporting Club 2-0 to cruise into the quarter-final of McDowell's N0 1 Yaari Premier Cup football tournament at Government School play ground, Cuncolim on Tuesday.
Ambelim dominated the game right from the word go and never allowed their opponents to settle down and restricted their movements to their own half. Ambelim opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Jade Colaco slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot. Ambelim could have won by handsome margin had their forwards, especially Samson Simoes and Jade Colaco not muffed sitters.
At the other end, Raia Sporting were struggling to catch up with their rival's brisk pace and had couple of scoring chances but their forwards wasted sitters from ideal position. Remedios Pango spurned some easy chances.
Crossing over, Ambelim continued to dictate terms and enjoyed the better share of exchanges and pushed their opponents on the back foot. Samson Simoes had a chance to double the lead but he shot wide from close range much to the dismay of Ambelim supporters. Nial Cardozo sealed his rival's fate when he scored the second goal with a clinical finish.
