International Master Audi Ameya secured the runner-up spot at the recently concluded 1st Ashtavinayak Group All India FIDE Rapid Rating Chess Tournament 2026 in Mumbai.
Ameya remained unbeaten throughout the nine-round tournament, recording seven wins and two draws to finish with an impressive 8 points.
The Goan registered victories over Maharashtra players Yuven Gaurav Jhaveri, Sarthak Santosh Prasad, Gupta Rajesh R S, Dileep Tripathi, Gada Om and Arnav Maehsh Koli. He drew his games against IM Gusain Himal of Railways and Ram Parab.
Ameya and Parab emerged as the leading contenders for the title going into the penultimate round. Parab defeated Ghadge Harsh to take his tally to 8.5 points, while Ameya drew against Gusain Himal, leaving him to settle for second place.
Kherdekar Arnav finished third.
The tournament attracted 150 players from across the country, including seven titled players. Ameya’s unbeaten run and podium finish stood out among the strong field.
