Goa crashed to an innings and 145 runs loss to Andhra in their fifth and concluding match of the two-day U-14 Boys Inter State South Zone tournament at KCA Ground-2, Thodupuzha (Idukki Dist) on Sunday.
Goa won the toss and elected to bat. But poor application by their batters saw Goa U-14 Boys meekly fold up for 29 in a mere 12 overs. Only middle-order batsman Arshi Sardessai put up some resistance and stayed unbeaten on 21 (33b, 4x4). The next best contribution was four runs, in an innings which included as many as six ducks.
Andhra employed only two bowlers in an unchanged spell of six overs each. While G Sumith had unbelievable returns of 7/9, A Kiran supported him well with 2/19.
In reply, Andhra rattled 278/ 7 in 72.2 overs built largely on a fine century by their number four batter KSS Jayanth, who scored 117 (184b, 13x4). Fine contributions came from M Abhinav (48) and M Mahendra Yadav (38) as well. The Goa attack did not make a good reading and conceding 26 extras completed the plightful picture.
Trailing by a mammoth 249 runs, Goa could somehow manage to enter a three-digit score in their second essay. They made 104 all out in 45.3 overs. Lower-order batsman Yuvraj Singh top-scored in the innings with an unbeaten 35 (71b, 6x4). Izan Shaikh (26) and Shrutvik Bhagat (21) managed to reach double figures as well.
For Andhra, it was the turn of G Mallikarjun with telling figures of 15.3-10-15-6 to lead the attack in the second dig.
