Aniket Ekka of Naval School won the Independence Day Cup Mormugao Taluka open Chess tournament organised by Mormugao Taluka Chess Association (under the aegis of Goa Chess Association) at Chicalim Sports Complex, Vasco.

The Swiss league system was used for the tournament sponsored by Achut Naik, which included 6 rounds and attracted 78 participants, 20 of whom were rated players. In the last round, Aniket drew with top seed Dr Brendan Peroz to score 5.5 points from 6 rounds to remain unbeaten and clinch the title. Brendan also scored 5.5 points but had to settle for a 2nd place finish. Yash Paul finished in the 3rd spot. The top 3 winners were awarded trophies and cash prizes.

Tickets available for GFA Charity Match
Goa Football Association (GFA) will organise the Charity Match for the season 2023-24 between Dempo Sports Club and Sporting Clube de Goa on August 20 at Duler Stadium, Mapusa. The kickoff is at 4 pm.

The tickets for the match are priced at Rs 100 (North Stand), Rs 200 (West Stand) and Rs 500 (VIP). "All are requested to attend the match in big numbers as the proceeds of the match will be given to beneficiaries chosen by GFA," the GFA said in a press release.

FREEDOM 2023 held at Tilamola church
The Parish Youth of Mae Dos Pobres Church, Tilamola organised FREEDOM 2023 on the occasion of Independence Day. Traditional competitions were conducted by the parish youth for the parishioners. These included Logorio, Nal'lanim, Tug of War, Tallyani, Langdii, Mittanim. The off-field traditional competitions conducted were sweet dish presentation, t-shirt painting, kovita writing and photography. The overall winners of FREEDOM 2023 were the Gonvol ward members. Delisha Rebello proposed the vote of thanks while MC Concy Oliveira was the compere for the event.
