Anjuna Gymkhana SC registered a convincing 2-0 win over St  Savio’s SC Calangute to lift the glittering Late Anthony &  Santana Carvalho Memorial Cup 2018, sponsored by Peter Carvalho  &  Prashant Korgaonkar, played at Poriat grounds, Calangute here on Sunday.

Anjuna Gymkhana scored a goal in each session of play. St Savio’s after their big 7-0 win in the semis against St Anthony’s  Marna took the field full of confidence, but a perfect cross by Panny  Naik in the very 4th minute saw Rohit Kamble rise high above the rival  defenders and head the ball into the far corner of the goal which  brushed keeper Selwyn hands before entering the goal to make it 1-0.

Calangute came with a series of attacks but it was  Anjuna keeper Soma Korgaonkar who made two smart saves. First he thwarted  Runaal Shirodkar in a one-on-one situation and then fist the ball over the  post from a scorching right footer from Blake Haldankar.

 Post the lemon break, Anjuna Gynkhana doubled their lead through Samuel D’Souza’s flick over an advancing Selwyn D’Souza to make it 2-0.

Anjuna Gynkhana returned home richer by taking the winners cash prize of  Rs. 70,000 along with the glittering trophy while hosts St Savio’s had to be content with the runner’s  up cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and the trophy.

 At the breather, St Savio’s President John Fernandes and club officials  introduced Chief Guest Michael Lobo (Dy. Speaker-Goa Legislative  Assembly & MLA Calangute Constituency;  Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco  (MLA Curtorim Constituency); special invitees: Dattaprasad Dabolkar-ZP,  Shawn Martins, Calangute sarpanch;  Lavino Rebello, GFA vice-president; Welvin Menezes, GFA secretary; Alirio Lobo-presiden,t  Calangute Association; Digambar Haldankar, Albert Fernandes, Gajanan  Kerkar and Patrick D’Souza to the players and match officials.
