Areal shoot out DBO in South opener

Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club shunted out Don Bosco Oratory,Fatorda 6-3 via tie-breaker to seal a place in the quarter-finals of the South Goa McDowell's No 1 Yaari Premiere Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Cuncolim Union at Government Village School playgrounds, Cuncolim on Tuesday. Both the teams were tied 1-1 at half time.
However, it was Sao Jose de Areal's opponents Don Bosco Oratory who took the lead - as early as in the 15th minute to test the spirit and commitment of S
ao Jose de Areal team. Areal contingent, however, had other plans as their spirits were seldom deterred by the early Fatorda goal. Striker Ashley Araujao picked up the ball from Necil Pinto and the former unleashed a shot that beat Areal goalkeeper hands down.
Stung by that setback, Areal regrouped quickly but striker Bersel Viegas's volley missed the target narrolwy. At the other end, Don Bosco Oratory had a chance to inflate their tally but Necil Pinto's rasping shot sailed over the cross bar. Two minutes later,Areal equalized their deficit as lanky striker Necil Pinto's blasting shot found the top corner form a well-measured pass from Danny Dias to make the scoreline 1-1 at half time.
Changing over, both the teams introduced fresh legs and went all out in search of the match-winner as they pressed more men upfront. In the 46th minute, Danny Dias who received a pass from his colleague unleashed a snap shot giving no chance to the Areal goalkeper Joseph Monteriro to regain the lead. Down by 1-2, Areal pressurized the rival defence and swarmed all over the rival territory and their efforts bore fruit when Bersel Viegas cancelled the lead off Raymond Fernandes' through pass in the 63rd minute. With the score tied 2-2, both the teams adopted aggressive approach but yielded no result.In the ensuing penalty shootout, Bersel Viegas, Agio Antao, Haysten Dias and Joseph Monteiro were on target for Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club while only Necil Pinto was sucessful for Don Bosco Oratory.
Mahesh Gawli, former India central defender was the chief guest and declared the tournament open.
In the North Goa encounter which kicked off the Yaari Cup at Tembi grounds, Anjuna, the inaugural match was played between Sinquerim SC, Mayem and Adarsh Yuvak Sangh Saligao where the latter came out victorious with a 2-1 margin. Both the teams started on an attacking note, but it was Sinquerim SC that broke the deadlock in the 16th minute through Chandan Govekar. At half-time, Sinquerim SC, Mayem were leading with one goal. In the second half, Adarsh scored an equaliser through Yogesh Mayekar in the 44th minute after being assisted by Michael Dias. Sinquerim SC again came close in leading the match through Karan Hoble, but his header hit the crossbar.
In the dying minutes, Yogesh Mayekar scored to seal victory for Adarsh Yuvak Sangh.

PANAJI Guardian Angel defeated Govt. High School, Sheldem 3-1 in the final. Earlier in the semi-finals, Guardian Angel beat Don Bosco Farm High School, Sulcorna 3-0, while Govt. High School, Sheldem defeated Chandrabhaga T. Naik High School 3-1. In the third place playoff, Smt. Chandrabhaga T. Naik HS defeated Bon Bosco Farm HS 3-1 to secure the third spot. The Guardian Angel team trained under PE teacher Astrid Mascarhenas.
