Bardez Veterans edged past Dabolim Veterans 1-0 to storm into the finals of All Goa Navelim Veterans football tournament organised by Navelim Veterans at Rosary ground, Navelim on
Saturday.
Both the teams, consisting players of yesteryears, displayed vintage football to entertain the crowd. Dabolim Veterans came close to scoring but former Sesa Goa midfielder Alfred Fernandes’ booming shot was well blocked by rival goalkeeper Mario Aguair. At the other end, Bardez Veterans made a threatening move as Shailesh Misquin’s well-executed shot off a Bruno Coutinho assist, was parried away by the rival goalkeeper.
Bardez Veterans then made a series of attacks with former India captain Bruno Coutinho and Mohan Parab working in tandem to put the rival defence under pressure. In one such move, Mohan Parab found Shailesh Misquin, who slotted past the rival goalkeeper for the winner in the 24th minute.
Crossing over, Dabolim Veterans pressed hard for a leveller but Pele Xavier and Adrian Dias were unable to get past the rival goalkeeper. Bardez Veterans will meet the winners of the match between Albert Developers and Fatorda Veterans, in the finals on January 26.
