Betalbatim Sporting Club came from behind to defeat Sporting Club of Davorlim 3-2 via tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of the South Goa McDowell’s No 1 Yaari Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Cuncolim Union at Government Village School Play ground, Cuncolim on Thursday.
Betalbatim Sporting Club were trailing 0-1 at the breather. Sporting Club of Davorlim dominated the proceedings initially and looked particularly threatening down the flanks. Their effortts bore fruit in the 29th minute when striker Abay Shetty ‘s rasping shot deflected the rival goalkeeper to put his team in front.
Betlalbatim Sporting Club gradually eased into the game and had plenty of chances to equalise but their forwards misfired from close range. A few minutes later, Sporting Club of Davorlim had two clear chances but their strikers hit wide.
Desperate for a goal, Betalbatim SC came out all
guns blazing in the second half.
Betalbatim SC finally equalized in the 40th minute when Klusner Pereira’s snap shot beat the rival goalkeeper of an assist from Selio Fernandes.
Betalbatim Sporting Club upped their efforts and in the 43rd minute Oliver D’Souza punished the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish to take the lead.
In the 57th minute, Sporting Club of Davorlim equalised through to take the game into a tie-breaker.
In the ensuing tiebreaker, Selio Fernandes, Klusner Pereira and Olvier D Souza were on target for
Betalbatim SC as goalkeeper Selio Feranndes made three brilliant saves to deny Davorlim Sporting Club all their penalties.
In the North Goa quarter-final, Benny XI Mapusa
posted a convincing 3-1 win against United Club of Nerul to enter the semi-finals on Thursday.
