India's Rohan Bopanna and his Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski failed to enter the mixed doubles semifinals at the US Open after losing to Colombian-German pair of Robert Farah and Anna-Lena Gronefeld 6-1, 2-6, 8-10 in the quarter-finals on Monday.
The loss extended Bopanna's wait for a Grand Slam for yet another year. He has never managed to go past the quarterfinal stage at in mixed doubles at a Grand Slam event. It also means that Sania Mirza is now the only Indian still competing at Flushing Meadows. Mirza and her Czech partner Barbora Strycova beat Nicole Gibbs and Nao Hibino 6-4, 7-5 in the women's doubles third round. Mirza and Strycova were a break down at 5-3 in the second set but managed to turn it around to book a meeting with No. 1 seeds Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic.
