CAC Cansaulim beat Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 1-0 to annex the trophy at Pax of Nagoa inter village football tournament, organised by Pax of Nagoa, in a thrilling final at Nagoa Panchayat ground, Verna on Tuesday.
The teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds on their toes. Don Bosco Oratory slowly took over the reins and made a couple of sorties against the rival citadel. Striker Necil Pinto came close to breaking the deadlock when he unleashed a snap shot but it sailed over the crossbar in the second minute. At the other end, CAC Cansaulim squandered the easiest of chances in the 8th minute when Domnic Soares failed to tap the ball in from close in the 24th minute. Two minutes later, again Domnic Soares failed to beat the goalkeeper in a one on one situation.
Don Bosco Oratory had a golden chance to surge ahead but Hanslun Furtado’s snap shot failed to find the roof of the net in the 32nd minute. Post resumption, the trend continued with both the teams showing the attacking intent but without success. Francis Andrade’s left footer was then well blocked by rival goalkeeper Prabhakar Kattimani.
The all important goal came in the 64th minute when Ashley Soares’ rasping shot crashed into the net. ​With just one minute left for the final whistle, Cansio Soares​ of Cansaulim​ sent a curler that hit the Fato​r​da post. ​Ashley Soares of CAC Cansaulim was named as the Man of the match.
CAC Cansualim were richer by Rs 40,000 while Don Bosco Oratory had to settle for a prize of Rs 30,000. Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Alexio D’Costa​, Ravi Cabral, Anthony Rodrigues, other dignitaries and club officials.
