Calangute Association beat Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim 2-1 in the Goa Professional League match at Duler Stadium, here, on Monday. At half time the scores were level at 1-1.
Calangute Association could have scored in the 4th minute through Rajat Chopdekar who made a wonderful attempt but did not succeed and his shot missed the goal by inches. Again in the 9th minute, Gaurish Naik failed in his attempt when he took on Cavelossim goalkeeper one-on-one.
Finally, Calangute Association took the lead in the 19th minute though a goal from Felix Chidi Odili off a free kick taken by George D’Souza. Cavelossim scored the equalizer through a penalty kick taken by Mario Mascarenhas in the second minute of add on time of the first half.
In the second half, Cavelossim played with a man down as Melwin Fernandes received a direct red card for punching Caitano Viegas in the 52nd minute.
Calangute Association played some attacking football and kept the rival defenders on their toes and desperately looked forward to seizing possession. In the 80th minute, Yogesh Kadam went past the goalkeeper, dodging him and scoring a brilliant goal for Calangute Association, making it 2-1 in his team's favour. Calangute tried to score their third goal whereas Cavelossim went all out to pull one back in the dying minutes of the game.
