Calangute Association registered a fluent 2-0 win over 10-man Chandor Club to move into the semi- final of All Goa 44th Custodio Memorial inter-village football tournament organized by Raia Sporting Club at Panchayat grounds, Raia on Friday. Calangute Association led 1-0 at the break.
It was a commanding performance by Calangute Association who simply outclassed Chandor Club.
Calangute took firm grip early in the game and kept Chandor on their toes.
The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when Aniket Mandrekar controlled the ball as Blake Haldankar sent a pass at the far post and slotted the ball past Chandor goalkeeper Presley Mascarenhas. It was a well deserved lead for Calangute and they continued to attack.
At the other hand, Chandor tried their best to come back into the game. However, Calangute defenders stood tall in protecting their slender lead.
Post resumption, Calangute Association continued to enjoyed the better share of exchanges with their forwards launching a barrage off attacks.They did not have to wait for long to score the insurance goal and in the 38th minute when striker Gregory D'Souza unleashed a snap shot which slipped the ball from the hands of Chandor goalkeeper and rolled into the net.In the 50th minute Chandor suffered a jolt when Stanley Hadangali was red-carded by referee for using abusive language.
Down by 0-2, Chandor made couple of substitution to force something out the game but it did not yield results. Sunny Fernandes and Mosses D'Sa made valiant attempts but failed to get past the rival goalkeeper. Calangute Association had couple of scoring chances to increase their tally but Blake Haldankar and Pedro Gonsalves frittered away sitters at the fag end.
