Calangute Association drubbed Goa Velha Sports Club by a 4-0 margin to enter the quarter-finals of Vagator Soccer 2018 (UK Cup), organised by Vagator PYSC, at Vagator Ozran grounds, on Tuesday.
Calangute went into the breather with a one-goal cushion. In the 19th minute, Vaichel Vaigankar controlled a pass from Pedro Gonsalves and drilled a shot at the goal which hit the rival defender Prasil Kanolkar as the ball rolled into the goal, 1-0. Calangute lost a glorious chance to increase their lead but Runal Shirodkar strike landed into the waiting hands of the keeper.
On crossing ends Goa Velha did try to get back into the match, but the last line of Calangute defense failed to score. While Goa Velha failed to score Calangute extended their lead in the 39th minute with Pedro Gonsalves scored with an adroit placement, 2-0.
As the match progressed Calangute pumped in two more goals through Anand Kerkar and Dominic Fernandes. Aiken Dias received the man of the match award.
On Monday, Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda had to wait for the penalty shootout as they registered a 6-5 win over Holy Cross sports club Arambol to enter the quarters.
In the 19th minute of play a rasping shot by Jason Fernandes was blocked by Fatorda keeper Agnelo Fernandes with a diving save but the ball rolled to Kritikesh who tapped the ball into the goal. Arambol almost doubled their lead when Stephelton Fernandes sent a pass to well positioned Vivek who drilled a stiff grounder which was saved by Fatorda keeper Agnelo.
At the other end, Fatorda lost a glorious chance to level terms where a rasping shot from Ashley Araujo hit the upright. After number of missed chances, finally in the 63rd minute, Fatorda managed to level terms. Francis Andrade found Clive Miranda inside the penalty box who scored with a neat placement, 1-1.
In the tiebreaker to decide the winner, DBO Fatorda scored through Roque Broges, Valito Miranda, Cayven Araujo, Clive Miranda and Francis Andrade, while for Arambol colts Jason Fernandes, Shashank Asvekar, Myson Britto and Stephelton Fernandes scored. Ashley Araujo received the man of the match award.
