Cansaulim drub Goa Velha to enter semis

CAC, Cansaulim made short work of Goa Velha Sports Club 4-1 to cruise into the semi-final of All Goa St Sebastian Union Club Cup inter village football tournament organized by St Sebastian Union Club, Benaulim at St John the Baptist Grounds, Dando-Benaulim on Friday. The highlight of the day was a splendid hat-trick by Richard Rodrigues.

margaorrBoth the teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the crowds on their toes. As the match progressed, Goa Velha took over the reins and had a chance when Sairaj Chopdekar found Nikesh Mangueskar inside the rival penalty box. However, Nikesh’s shot was well blocked by rival goalkeeper Clinson Silva in the 4th minute. At the other end, CAC, did not lag behind and raided the rival goal when striker Domnick Soares picked up the ball from Richard Rodrigues and the former’s power-packed shot hit the cross bar much to the dismay of Cansaulim supporters. rCAC had a chance to surge ahead but Bisto Dias shot wide much to the disbelief of Cansualim supporters. After a couple of misses, CAC’s break through came in the 16th minute when Domnic Soares unleashed a snap shot that dipped into the net, keeping the rival goalkeeper dazed. rHowever, their joy was short lived and in the 32nd minute Chatur Naik converted the spot kick to level the score. After the break, CAC were a dominant lot with their forwards swarming all over the rival penalty box. Richard Rodrigues who had a good game when he punted the ball to the far corner of the net in the 38th minute. It was a one way traffic as Goa Velha were at the receiving end and were struggling to catch the rival’s brisky pace. rRichard Rodrigues struck a second time to register his brace in the 45th minute. Richard Rodrigues scored his hat-trick in the 55th minute when he beat the rival goalkeeper with neat placement. CAC Cansaulim will meet the winners of Margao SC and Cuncolim Union in the semi-finals on July 10.
