In the semifinals, Castle Boys Mapusa-Dubai beat Sangolda FC-Dubai, while AIG-Anjuna got the better of Parish Youth Nuvem from group Oman. The clash for the title was action-packed right from the start as both teams played strong under the floodlights determined to win the title ‘Goan Wing Cup-GCC Football Champions'.
The Goan Wing football champion from the GCC participating teams - Castle Boys Mapusa also bagged an individual honour as their player Gils George won best player of the tournament.
Mario of Vaxim Divar Dubai won best goalkeeper and Agnelo from Salcette United-Bahrain won the highest goalscorer of the tournament award. In addition, the best disciplined team award went to Chinchinim Amigos and the best-dressed team was Don Bosco Oratory- Kuwait. Frel Petter of AIG Anjuna and Cliff of Sangolda FC Dubai, were the man-of-the match of respective semi-finals.
Amidst all the merriment, Islinda, Brunette and Loretta of IBL bagged the top position tie-breaker for ladies, while Francisca, Gayle and Linette of AIG Anjuna won the runners-up spot. Indra Mani Pandey, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, was Chief Guest. Other special guests present for the tournament were, Imtiaz Usman (General Secretary Sports- ISC), Flynn De Lima (Founder President of GCO), Allan D'Costa (Former President GCO), Dr. Mario D'Souza (Founder General Secretary- GCO), Mohammed Ibrahim Cherdgury (GM of Al Hosni Group International LLC) and Andy Watson (UEFA Pro Licensed Football Coach and Head Coach of Ali Al Habsi Football School). Earlier, the Goan Wing tournament was declared ‘Open' by guest of honour, Andy Watson.
Edwin Viegas acknowledged the contribution and dedication shown by Esmee towards football for the Goan community in Oman during the early 1980's till 1998. She was duly presented with the ‘Hall of Fame' award. On behalf of the Goan Wing, Anthony Lourenco,convenor, expressed his joy as his dream of Goan Wing going ‘international', finally came true and wished the participation of the Goans increases over time. The managing committee acknowledged the commitment shown by all members and volunteers of the Goan Wing especially Edwin Viegas (sports secretary) and Ryan Fernandes (joint-sports secretary) for all efforts that have been put in round-the-clock to make the Goan Wing 8-a-side GCC football tournament a grand success.
