Uttar Pradesh whipped Goa by an innings and 247 runs on Day 4 of the Elite Group C Ranji Trophy season-opener at the Green Park, Kanpur on Sunday.
It did not take the home side too long to bowl out Goa for a paltry 165 mid-way through the
first session on the last day.
Only overnight lower-middle order batsman Darshan Misal stood strong with an unbeaten 51(92b, 8x4).
Starting the day on 123/8 with Misal on 12, the tail-end batsmen showed enough resistance to help the Goa all-rounder complete a well-deserved half century in the face of calamity.
The wiry and pacy UP seamer, Ankit Rajpoot picked up the last two wickets to help his team pick seven points from the match.
While Rajpoot ended the innings with a splendid fifer (5/41), Saurabh Kumar cut his teeth in with a fine 4/55.
Goa play their next match at home in Porvorim against Jammu & Kashmir on November 12-15.
UP captain Akshdeep Nath was declared the player-of-the match for his monumental 194.
