Title aspirants Chandor Club rallied from behind to beat Curtorim Gymkhna 6-4 via tie-breaker to march into the semi-finals of South Goa Mc Dowell’s No 1 Yaari Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Cuncolim Union at Government Village Play Ground, Cuncolim on Sunday.
Chandor Club were trailing 1-2 at half time. The first half was dominated by Curtorim Gymkhana, who
dominated possession and contolled the flow of the match.
They took the lead in the 17th minute when Marcus Fernandes scored a snap shot.
Curtorim Gymkhana doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when Julio Dias punished the rival goalkeeper with a clincial finish.
Down by 0-2, Chandor Club intensified their attack. They reduced their deficts when Luis Noronha’s blistering shot found the roof of the net in the 34th minute.
Post resumption, in the 52nd minute, Soccoro Fernandes converted his chance with utmost ease to draw level for Chandor Club.
With the match ending in a 2-2 draw, the result was decided by a tie-breaker.
In the ensuing penalty shoot out, Cruz Gomes, Joaquim Carvalho, Moses D’Sa and Yakram Yadav
were on target for Chandor Club while Jolwin Carneiro and Wilson Fernandes
converted for Curtorim Gymkhana. Chandor Club
will now meet Parish Youth in the first semi-final on
August 26.
