Chandu G Lamani, physical education officer at BITS Pilani KK Birla Goa Campus has been conferred the PhD Degree at the recently held 69th Annual Convocation of Karnatak University, Dharwad at the hands of Prof. Shekhar C Mande, director general, CSIR & Secretary DSIR, New Delhi, and Prof. Pramod B. Gai, vice-chancellor, Karnatak University, Dharwad.
Dr. Lamani successfully completed his research thesis titled ‘A Study of Morphological and Motor Fitness of Junior and Senior Cricket Players of Goa’ under the guidance of Prof. Pratap Singh Tiwari, former vice-chancellor, Gulbarga University & Director of Sports, Govt. of Karnataka in the Research Dept. of Physical Education and Sports
Science of Karnatak University, Dharwad.
Dr. Lamani is the second Goan cricket player to complete the doctorate degree in physical education and sports science. Dr. Lamani has represented the State team in the under-19, under-22, under-25 categories; represented the Goa University team; represented Goa in the School National Games and Salgaocar Cricket Club.
Dr. Lamani completed his BA and B PEd from Goa University and won a gold medal for M PEd from Karnatak University, Dharwad.
The thesis is focused on understanding of the structure, function and performance relationships in different sports, including cricket. Allowances for improved coaching approaches, development of sport specific fitness and skills training programs, team selections and talent identification in young players.
