A Goan footballer who played for Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League finals on Sunday was injured in a road accident in Mapusa on Wednesday evening.
In a head-on collision between a car and passenger bus, footballer Godwin Alexander Franco (30) of Arradi-Guirim, who was driving the car, suffered injuries on his right leg, Mapusa Police informed.
He was shifted to North Goa District Hospital, from where he was referred to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
“The accident victim (footballer) suffered lacerated wound on his right knee, where his tendon was exposed. Since the X-ray in the District Hospital was not functioning and not to take chances the casualty, doctor immediately referred him to GMC,” Dr Abhijeet of the District Hospital informed.
According to Mapsua Police, Franco was driving from Mapusa to Saligao and the passenger bus was travelling from Calangute to Mapusa. On reaching near the Bodgeshwar Temple on the Parra-Mapusa, both the bus and the car collided head-on.
Franco played in the mid-field for the Chennaiyin FC in the current ISL football league.Head Constable Kishore Naik of Mapusa is investigating the case.
