Former champions Churchill Brothers Sports Club will start as favourites against the relegation-threatened Chennai City FC when the two sides clash in an I-League match in Coimbatore on Saturday.
Churchill Brothers had a light training session at the Nehru Stadium in Coimbatore on Friday after which coach Alfred Fernandes said that the morale of his players is high and he is optimistic of getting three points from the fixture. However, he was quick to point out that any team in the competition cannot be taken lightly. “Chennai City FC have not been faring too well and are low on confidence at the moment. But we cannot afford to relax,” the coach said.
Churchill Brothers will be bolstered by the return of Koffi Mechac, who has recovered from his injury. However, Fernandes will miss the services of right wing back Wayne Vaz on account of a double
booking.
Speaking about the previous match against NEROCA FC, Fernandes said, “The referee denied us three legitimate penalties and we played well against them. In the present situation, we don’t have an option. We have to win on Saturday. It won’t be easy as they have a good combination of Indian and foreign players. It’s a must-win game for both the sides but for different
reasons.”
While a win would keep Fernandes’s team better placed in the standings, three points would help Chennai City move out from the relegation zone.
