Churchill Brothers FC CEO Valanka Alemao has criticised the Goa Football Association (GFA) leadership, alleging that the association failed to provide the necessary support and No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the club ahead of its debut in the Indian Super League (ISL).
Alemao alleged that GFA president Caitano Fernandes and vice-president Jonathan D’Souza created obstacles during the club’s transition to the top tier, while other executive members supported Churchill Brothers and helped secure the NOC.
“Churchill Brothers have given Goan players a platform,” Alemao said, pointing to players such as Kingsley Fernandes, Richard Costa, Anil Gaonkar, Trijoy Dias and Stendly Fernandes who have represented the club.
Alemao also highlighted Churchill Brothers’ history in Indian football, describing the club as a football powerhouse and saying the team’s aim is to win the ISL trophy.
However, GFA vice-president Jonathan D’Souza rejected the allegations. He said Churchill Brothers had failed to submit the required documents within the stipulated 19-day period and maintained that the association was merely following due process.
D’Souza accused the club of trying to “play the victim card” and said the delay was linked to the documentation process.
The dispute comes as Churchill Brothers prepare for their debut in the ISL, with the club seeking to establish itself in the country’s top tier.
