Cuncolim Union president Prakash R Dessai lashed out at Goa Football Association for not doing justice to their protest regarding Pilerne Sports Club fielding Suraj Kauthankar, in the semi-final tie of Late Pio Jose Goveia memorial tournament organised by Youth Club of Colvale.
Dessai claimed that the said player is ineligible to play in the tournament as he is not registered with the GFA. Dessai accused GFA officials of favouritism to some clubs who back them. Cuncolim Union had lodged in a protest against Suraj Kauthankar, who was playing for Pattakkdil Tamil Mandal, a club based in Kolhapur. But when he returned to Goa, he started playing in the inter-village football tournament for his native club.
According to Cuncolim Union, Kauthankar did not complete the necessary formalities required for the inter-state transfer and Dessai questioned how the GFA allowed the registration of the player without proper verification.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday evening, Dessai criticised the Goa Football Association for not following proper procedure. "The GFA allowed the players to get registered with the Western India Football Association (WIFA) and without the directives of All India Football Federation (AIFF), registered the player again. This is a blatant mistake of the parent body," claimed Dessai.
Dessai disclosed that due to inability of GFA vice-president (south) Schubert Furtado and the Executive Members in giving justice to Cuncolim Union, the club has decided to go in for arbitration appeal and also write to the AIFF.
Vicky Tavares, Secretary of Cuncolim Union and Dinesh Naik, executive member of Cuncolim Union, were also present at the press
conference.
