Cuncolim Union took early control and came close to foisting the lead when veteran striker Rosario Carvalho picked up the ball from Frazier Fernandes, but the former's snap shot missed the target narrowly. A minute later, Cuncolim Union were unlucky when Wellington D'Souza's stiff shot missed the target by a few inches. On the other hand, Curtorim Gymkhana took time to settle down.
Cuncolim Union's breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Frazier Fernandes punished the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish off a Krishna Shirodkar long pass. Stung by the setback, Curtorim Gymkhana took the fight to the rival camp but Nelson Fernandes shot wide much to the disbelief of Curtorim Gymkhana supporters. They, however, made a strong reply after switching ends but had to wait till late to find the equaliser when Allister Silveira beat the rival goalkeeper with a rasping shot off a Savio Fernandes pass. In the ensuing penalty shootout, Savio Fernandes, Floyd Barretto, Jameson Noronha and Elson Cardozo were on target for Curtorim Gymkhana, while Krishna Shirodkar, Frazier Fernandes and Edney Fernandes found the mark for Cuncolim Union.
Curtorim Gymkhana were richer by Rs 60,000 and a trophy, while Cuncolim Union had to settle for Rs 40,000 and a trophy. Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao was the chief guest and gave away
the prizes.
