MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana edged Betalbatim Sporting Club 5-4 on penalties to advance to the next round of the 43rd Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup, organised by Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club, at Sao Jose de Areal ground on Monday.
The teams were locked 0-0 at the end of regulation time, forcing the match into a tie-breaker.
Aliston Fernandes, Elton Mascarenhas, Mario Mascarenhas, Rhay Dias and Yanies Fernandes converted for Curtorim Gymkhana.
Oliver D’Souza, Jackson Raglao, Ray Karkas and Gladwin Braganza scored for Betalbatim Sporting Club, while the latter missed one attempt.
Elton Mascarenhas of Curtorim Gymkhana was named Man of the Match. Former St Jose de Areal SC goalkeeper Felix Rodrigues presented him with the award.
