MARGAO: Hosts Curtorim Gymkhana defeated Betalbatim Sporting Club 2-1 to secure their place in the semi-finals of the 32nd Curtorim Panchayat Cup, organised by Curtorim Gymkhana.
The match kicked off with an electrifying start as Curtorim surged ahead just 2 minutes in, with Nezly Hilario tapping in a cross from Gilbert Fernandes. They had a chance to double their lead shortly after, but Anslem Fernandes’ shot went wide. Curtorim maintained a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The second half saw Betalbatim ramp up their attack, with Sarvan Ronaldo and Keith missing several key opportunities. Betalbatim equalized in the 40th minute when Didymus Antao scored off a well-placed through ball from Keith Vaz.
As the match progressed, Curtorim Gymkhana found their winning goal in the 50th minute. Midfielder Cameo Elton Mascarenhas unleashed a powerful left-footer that found the bottom corner, leaving the Betalbatim goalkeeper with no chance.
Despite Betalbatim's efforts to equalize, including a shot from Dylan that was expertly saved by Johnson Bhogot, they couldn't find the net again.
Johnson Bhogot was named Man of the Match, receiving the award from the chief guest, Miss Esigna de Souza, panch of the village panchayat Curtorim, alongside Santan Mascarenhas, internal auditor of Curtorim Gymkhana.
Curtorim Gymkhana will now face Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club Paroda in the semi-final clash scheduled for October 11.
