Damodar English High School, Gudi-Paroda won a double crown when they won both the under-14 and -17 South Goa titles in boys hockey tournament organised by Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs.
In the U-14 South District finals played at Seraulim ground, Damodar defeated The King’s School, Sao Jose de Areal 2-0. The Damodar boys took the lead in the 29th minute through Omkar Gaonkar. Ten minutes later, Krish Gaonkar doubled the lead.
In the finals of the U-17 category, Damodar beat St Anthony’s School, Majorda 5-4 (2-2) after a shootout. In the regulation time, Jan Malik and Ashley Rodrigues scored for St Anthony’s HS, while Shohib and Rohan Gaonkar scored for Damodar.
In the shootout, Damodar scored through Akshay Gawde, Priyanshu Goud and Piyash Gosavi. The winning team, which will next play in the State finals, is coached by physical education teacher Amit Desai.
