MARGAO
FC Goa began their campaign with a 3-0 win over Salgaocar FC in a Goa zone AIFF Under-13 Sub-junior League match at Nagoa Panchayat Sports Complex on Tuesday. All the goals were scored in the second half.
Salgaocar FC dominated the first half with a lot of shots at the opposition goal while FC Goa had far fewer attempts. Salgaocar FC came close to surging ahead in the second minute bur Salvador Gama was thwarted by rival defender Dadapir Ador early in the game. Salgaocar had another chance but Micheal Nevil’s header flew over the crossbar, off a floater
from Flan Crasto.
The two teams were locked in an intense midfield battle with FC Goa clearly struggling to find the rhythm in the opening minutes. However they went close but Prachit Gaonkar could only find the side netting. On the other hand, Salgaocar had a chance in the 10th minute when Flan Crasto unleashed a snap shot but FC Goa goalkeeper Micky Dias was equal to the task to palm it away.
Post resumption, FC Goa were a dominant side with their forwards displaying more authority over the rival defence. Velrose Dias drew the first blood for FC Goa in the 48th minute when he beat the Greens goalkeeper with an adroit placement.
After taking the lead, FC Goa continued to dictate terms and Velrose completed his brace in the 50th minute. In the 64th minute, Ivo Costa’s blistering shot crashed into the net giving no chance to the rival goalkeeper. Down 0-3, Salgaocar FC went all out and were unlucky in the dying minutes of the game when Hayden Fernandes’ free kick hit the crossbar.
