MARGAO: Dempo Sports Club failed to turn up for their Round 17 Pro League encounter against Tuff Laxmi Prasad Sports Club at Duler stadium, Mapusa on Saturday.
Tuff Laxmi as well as the match officials reported. Match commissioner Gokuldas Nagvenkar failed to give a decision on the outcome of the match as he chose to throw the ball in GFA’s court.
The spectators who had gathered to witness the match left the stadium dismayed and as per sources in GFA, Dempo had sought for a postponement as they were scheduled to take on Kenkre FC, Mumbai on December 27 in the Western Conference Second Division I-League match at Tilak Maidan, Vasco.
Meanwhile, when contacted Dempo head coach Mauricio Afonso said: "How can we play against Laxmi Prasad when we are playing against Kenkre FC on Sunday at Tilak Maidan."
Afonso said he was not complaining, but those in charge of scheduling the matches need to have a look at how the tournaments are planned. "I am not complaining but I feel that those at the helm at the GFA should look at the players' angle. It's (scheduling) killing them and leading to burnout and making them more injury prone," said the Dempo coach adding that team managment had asked for postponement of the Pro League match. "Since we are playing the elite leage it is impossible to play back to back matches as players are not machines and they require adequate rest," he pointed out, asking GFA to have a re-look at the Pro League schedule.
