Dicarpale Sports Club edged past Cuncolim Union 10-9 via sudden death to enter the finals of All Goa Legend Catao Fernandes memorial inter-village football tournament organised by Union of Chinchinim Villagers at Church grounds, Chinchinim, on Sunday. Dicarpale Sports Club were leading 1-0 at the break.
Dicarpale were aggressive right from the start. Their attacking approach shook the Cuncolim defence. With repeated attacks, Dicarpale rocked the rival citadel in the 8th minute when Agnelo Colaco punted the ball to the far corner of the net. Stung by that setback, Cuncolim Union tried their best to come back into the game and made concentrated efforts to neutralize the lead but the rival defence was strong enough to thwart the threatening moves.
In the second half, both teams took the field with better strategies, but it was Dicarpale who made it 2-0 in the 50th minute when attacking midfielder Perryson Rebello picked up the ball from his colleague and punted the ball to the far corner of the net. Down by double blows, Cuncolim Union upped their ante with well orchestrated raids. Daulat Dessai who was in the thick of action reduced the deficit in the 55th minute. The reducer boosted the confidence levels of Cuncolim Union and in the 70th minute Daulat Dessai restored parity and also completed his brace.
In the tie-breaker, Stanley Miranda, Perryson Rebello, Bonnie Niasso, Agnelo Colaco Jr Cliffton Rebello, Joaquim Figureido found the mark for Dicarpale while Micky Fernandes, Treyson D'Costa, Fayaz Shaikh, Rosario Carvalho, Valky Fernandes and Vestern Dulchari scored for Cuncolim Union.
In the sudden death, Agnelo Colaco was successful for Dicarpale while Krishna Shirodkar returned a failed attempt.
