Naguesh Verenker and Sneha Rane won double crowns each, in the 3rd Naguesh and Sushila Verenker Memorial All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, organized by Chandor Club under the aegis of Goa Table Tennis Association, at Chandor Club Complex.
Naguesh registered a comfortable 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-9) win over Shantesh Mapsekar to win the sub junior boys title and then caused a major upset ousting top seed Wesley Do Rosario 3-1 (11-9, 17-15, 8-11, 11-6) to lift the Junior Boys title. Sneha Rane won the sub junior and Ladies titles with a 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-5) win over Simran Kubal in Sub junior Girls and a 3-1(11-7, 6-11, 11-9, 11-5) win over Mallika Gogoi in the Ladies finals.
Khushal Naik and Trisha Verlekar won their maiden titles winning the mini cadets boys and girls category events with Darren Duarte and Riya Gopi emerging runners up. Khushal won 11-7, 11-7, 11-7 while Trisha won 11-6, 11-8, 11-5. Aaron Farias won the cadets boys title with a 3-1 (11-5, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9) win over Akshay Lawande. In cadets girls finals Simran Kubal got the better of Anushri Naik winning 3-1 (5-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-8).
Sanisha Shetye, who had played excellently to oust Sneha Rane in the Junior Girls semis, went down fighting to Prutha Parrikar losing 2-3 (14-12, 8-11, 6-11, 11-4, 9-11) in a cliff hanger. Wesley Do Rosario who had lost the Junior Boys finals earlier came back strongly to beat Dheeraj Rai 4-0 (11-9, 11-5, 11-1, 15-13) and lift the Men’s singles title.
Luis Tavora (former State table tennis player), Celina Coelho Furtado, Sarpanch, Chandor Panchayat; Domnick Mendes, President of Chandor Club; Vishnu Kolwalkar, Secretary of Goa Table Tennis Association; Raksha and Sudin Verenker, tournament promoters; and organizing secretary, Santosh Verenker, graced the prize distribution function.
